Back when CDs were a thing (RIP) I lived-out my teenaged dream of working with Much Music(RIP) on one of their “Big Shiny Tunes”compilations.
Heyooo Canadian xennials and millennials!
CD sales (and interest in compilation albums) were waning at the time, but I was THRILLED! Although it was during peak mid-2000’s aesthetic: aggressively distressed curly-cues and flaming bird wings, to communicate nü rock!
I don’t think I used enough distressed layers
Above: the concepts I submitted. They chose the middle-bottom option, but requested it to be black and white, to make it look more nü! (And distinguish it from the more colourful compilations from previous years.)
The full layout; needs more gothy bird wings
If you rode the TTC in Toronto or visited an HMV or Walmart in 2007, you probably got an unwanted eyefull of my art back in the day, as it appeared in transit ads and commercials!
My CD art getting top billing over Ashley Tisdale on the official Much Music site
It’s not an aesthetic I’m attached to (and I’ve chilled-out on the aggressive textures) but it’s one of the more fun/interesting projects I’ve worked on.
