"WAYDOWNTOWN" UPDATE
Here's a new synopsis about Don's upcoming movie Way Downtown, courtesy of Screen Trade Canada:
"Tom, Sandra, Randy and Curt have all staked a month's salary on a bet to see who can stay indoors the longest. It's lunch hour on day 24 of the wager, and all bets are off. Tom struggles through an illicit parkade tryst, flights of self-doubt and periodic superhero sightings - all the while trying to keep his over-the-edge cubicle mate Brad from jumping out a window. Sandra spends her lunch hour spying on her elderly kleptomaniac boss. Randy passes the time by assigning animal names to shopping-mall patrons. Curt, feeling especially amorous after being cut off from outside action, makes his move on a vulnerable colleague. A peeping-tom security guard, a jilted florist and a know-it-all receptionist add to the chaos. By the time the lunch hour is over, the bet is over and everyone's looking at life a little differently." Don plays the role of "Brad", Tom's suicidal cubical mate. Also, the domain for "www.waydowntown.com" has just been registered, so keep your eyes peeled when the site is finally launched...
"YUMMY FUR" NEWS & COMIC EXCERPTS
After several years of stalling (due to financial problems) it appears that Don's screenplay for Yummy Fur (originally penned back in '95) will finally see production. We don't know when the film will be released or made (it may take several more years) but stay tuned to this site for any new info.
Here's an excerpt of an article on Bruce, taken from a recent issue of Playback:
"Yummy Fur, described by McDonald as a "freakishly bizarre film... unintentionally funny... Eraserheady," is a Shadow Shows/Good Machine coprod, with [Accent Entertainment's] Susan Cavan attached to produce and McDonald to direct. Written by McKellar and John Frizzell (The Biggest Modern Woman of the World), and based on the comic-book series by Chester Brown, Yummy Fur tells the story of a dark world lit by the ubiquitous flicker of the tv screen. When Ed the Happy Clown is wrongly imprisoned after a severed hand is found in his bed, his vampire friend comes to his aid. Battling subterranean cannibal pygmies, her ex-boyfriend and a problem with Ed's penis, the two struggle toward redemption. McDonald envisions the film, budgeted at $6 million, to be brought to life by Macaulay Culkin as the Happy Clown, Rip Torn as the u.s. president and Drew Barrymore as the First Lady." I've also done some more searching around the web, and I've found several illustrations from Chester Brown's comic (excerpts courtesy of The Ontarion and Du9):
And lastly, here's a link to a great little article from several years ago, found on the Mr. Showbiz website, regarding Bruce and the movie...

DON SPOTTING... IN A COUNTRY MUSIC VIDEO!?
According to co-webmistress Sarah, our Don appears in Canadian country star Charlie Major's video for "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" (originally released on his 1995 album Lucky Man.) Don plays a man who engages in an illicit office affair with a married woman (played by Roadkill and Highway 61 co-star Valerie Buhagiar.)
If you're dying to see this video, you can send in a request to Country Music Television's website (I have no clue whether American music channels would have this video.) And just for viewer's convenience, CMT's website also posts an updated play list of every single video that will be played for that particular day. Meaning, you (mercifully) don't have to sit in front of the tv watching endless hours of Leanne Rimes and Dwight Yokam, before seeing the video you want. Just check up on the daily play list and set your vcr's!
If ya like, you can listen to a brief clip of "Tell Me Something I Don't Know", in either MP3 format or Real Audio. (Files courtesy of the Charlie Major "Everything's Alright" site.)
DON TO HOST ATLANTIC FILM FEST?
Playback magazine recently reported that Don has tentatively agreed to host the Canadian Directors Series screening at the Atlantic Film Fest, which will take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from September 15-23, 2000. Stay tuned to this site, for (possibly) more info on this. (You can check out the article in its entirety at this link).
TEDCITY UPDATE
As reported earlier on this site, Don will be one of the guest speakers at the upcoming TEDCity Conference, which will take place in Toronto, from June 7-10. Don's seminar will take place during the conference's third session on June 8th, from 8:45am-10:45am. If you have $3000 to spare, you too can catch Don, Atom Egoyan, Norman Jewison, and other notable Canadians at this conference. For more info, visit the official site.
BUT, if you're one of the few poor saps (like me) who can't afford to attend, you can probably try your luck and attempt to catch a glimpse of Don by hanging out at some of the following hot-spots during the conference (note: all of the following events are exclusive only to TEDCity participants. You won't be guaranteed entry to the events):
St. Lawrence Centre For The Arts: Gala opening reception, taking place on June 7th, from 8pm-11pm.
Rosewater Supper Club: TEDCity DOT.COM dinner, taking place June 8th, from 8:15pm-11pm.
Design Exchange: Muskoka Cottage Party, taking place June 9th, from 8pm-11pm.
Chum City Building: Closing Night gala, taking place June 10th, from 8pm-11:30pm.

TWITCH CITY TO REPEAT ON CBC?

DON ON "CHEZ CARLA"
We were unfortunately too late in telling you about Don's appearance on the premiere episode of a show called Chez Carla (which airs on The Comedy Network Sunday nights at 10pm EST) -- BUT, I've been told by Scott Henderson from the network that the episode will probably rerun sometime in July...
DON SPOTTING!
Don was spotted attending the premiere theatrical production of The Lion King in Toronto on April 25th, as well the gala after-party at the CN Tower...
